2nd Day
Today we were encouraged to put widgets on our blogs:
e.g. search buttons, recent posts (I haven't done that yet)
Here are some slides from the class.
1. The first is about attitudes to mobile phones in the classroom.
2. The second is three different ways mobiles and computers can feature in class.
3. The third is of different ways WhatsApp (or similar apps) can be used for teaching.
Social Media
Twitter is a good idea app to use to practice students' skimming and scanning skills. They can do it individually on phones, or together on an O.H.P. You can choose a story and students read different articles about that same story, that they find (on Twitter) and tell each other what they find (a split/jigsaw reading task).
Facebook is a good place for crowd sourcing information (Does anyone know.....?)
A personal learning network (P.L.N.) can be developed through social media sites. (e.g. fellow teachers in a Facebook group)
What'sApp can also be used in the class (see above picture 3). Ideas such as collaborative assignments (find and share an article/video on...); role play via text a conversation (e.g. arrange to meet your classmate); or simultaneously watching a TV show and commenting live are some good activities for homework.
Applications
Cahoot and Quizlet are good apps for learning the language.
Wikipedia is a good example of a wbsite that is useful for using the language.
Using Your Phone's Camera:
This was an activity using cameras: Can you tell what it is?
Podcasts are a good source of listening materials - both graded and ungraded - for students to use. There are so many topics, and types of podcast to choose from (see above picture).
Also you can get students to make their own podcast too. We used spreaker to record our interview.

This was one of many ideas for getting students talking, using their phones.(FYI it's a bottle lid and banister in close up.)
